Arctic Fox Semi-Permanent Periwinkle Hair Dye Review

Ever since I got my hands on this incredible hair dye range there was no turning back. I really love the fact that it isn't permanent so I get to experiment and choose what works best for me.

Is arctic fox good for hair

Design & Packaging-  I am totally loving the elegant black-colored plastic packaging with the periwinkle arctic fox emblem.

It has a  pop of writing which I believe enhances the beauty and vibrance in the design and packaging. The hair dye comes in a plastic bottle with a small opening.

Fragrance & scent- The scent is a little overpowering and strong for my liking which is a disadvantage.

Price- I purchased mine on amazon for 18 dollars but honestly I would advise looking for discounts online and buying a set or combo of hair dyes to help you save money.

If this product works well on your hair as it does on mine then may I suggest going for a bigger quantity as you will end up with some huge saving deals.

Effectiveness of the hair dye on the hair-Besides the color, the actual feel of my hair left me speechless because I had lightened it which left it feeling a bit gummy at the ends and overall very straw-like.

After using Arctic Fox, I found a big difference and felt my hair more nourished and healthier than it has in over six months.

As someone who wanted to add a new color without putting my hair through any unnecessary damage, it was the best solution that actually delivered the results it promised.

Texture- I was actually very surprised with the texture because it spread very easily throughout my hair without having to add any extra conditioner, unlike other semi-permanents.

I was over the moon that the entire  8oz bottle covered my entire head of thick hair generously.

The Arctic Fox brand was formulated to create vibrant hair colors without the use of any potential negative effects of semi-permanent hair dyes which is a huge bonus.

I love the fact that the brand is totally safe, and made using only high-quality vegan ingredients. Most of the ingredients are made non-alkaline and are peroxide free, so are in fact actually very gentle on the scalp and will not damage hair.

Other key ingredients that helps to keep your hair vibrant, beautiful and feeling beautifully nourished include-

Hydrolyzed Soy Protein- Soybean proteins penetrate deep into hair and skin providing a very conditioning effect, retaining moisture, and protecting the hair strands from drying out.

The proteins also help restore the structure of dry and brittle hair, giving it a healthy shine and making the hair very strong and supple.

Hydrolyzed Soy Proteins Are often used in hair curling formulations and are rich in antioxidants like vitamin E, potassium, calcium and iron.

Cetyl Alcohol- It is also known as Palmityl Alcohol and is a C-16 fatty alcohol that is white in color and comes in a white flaky form. The role of this in haircare is its ability to make your hair feel soft, smooth, and shiny.

It nourishes your hair from root to tip making it look vibrant and bouncy. This is exactly why you will see this being frequently used in your conditioners, shampoos and hair sprays etc.

Citric Acid- This is an organic acid found in all citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons, grapes, papayas, kiwis etc. It is also a  colorless and odorless chemical compound that is used as both a  food additive and as a preservative.

This ingredient is also used in so many cosmetic products such as soaps, creams, hair sprays, serums, lip balms and so on.

Arctic Fox Periwinkle Dye Before and After

Arctic Fox Periwinkle Dye Before and After

I was introduced to this hair dye by a friend. Since I am a naturally medium-dark blonde, I have found that most semi-permanent dyes don't stick to my hair unless I first lighten them. I was absolutely blown away with the color and loved how it blends really well into my roots.

You may need several bottles of dye depending on your length of hair. Since mine is just below my shoulders, I typically purchased two bottles: one 8-ounce and one 4-ounce but the 8-ounce was enough to cover my head generously.

Remember to lighten your hair if it isn't naturally light blonde already, or else you can most likely skip this step. I lighten my roots only and dye the ends.

If this is your first time lightening your hair, I recommend taking a look at it through a simple tutorial online.

I love the fact that Arctic Fox hair dye contains only natural ingredients and no chemicals, and the fact that it ends up being like a conditioning treatment which really helped my hair feel smooth and hydrated (no jokes). I prefer to let the dye stay in for one to two hours before washing it out.

Even when it is time to rinse, please do not use any shampoo as that will pull out some of the colors and ruin the evenness of the color deposit.

In such cases, using a dry shampoo in between will help prevent your hair from getting too greasy. My personal favorite is the Batiste Dry Shampoo.

When you wash your hair, only use a sulfate-free shampoo followed by a conditioner and lukewarm water, which I have found keeps the color runoff to a minimum.

Here are some of my key observations about the product and what to expect-

  • There is a lot of pigment so just be sure to wipe up any drips and clean any color off the skin quickly to prevent staining.
  • The product has a thick consistency and can easily be worked through the hair-like conditioner.
  • My hair did feel soft and conditioned after coloring.

Pros & Cons of the Arctic Fox Dye

-Adds vibrance to hair

-Good texture

-Spreads easily

-There is added conditioner, so extra hydration

-No ammonia or peroxide

-Slightly overpowering scent

How To Use Arctic Fox Semi Permanent Hair Dye

Step one: Shampoo without conditioner and then dry hair completely.

Step two: Use protective cream around the hairline and on your ears to prevent staining.

Step three:  Remove the bottle cap and seal, wear protective gloves, and empty as much as you desire into a bowl.

Step four: Apply color evenly all throughout the hair.

Step five:  Leave color on your hair for thirty minutes or longer.

Finally, cover your hair with a plastic cap for the best results and finally finish off by rinsing your hair in cold water away from the face.

I already have a very positive view of the brand Arctic Fox, but the periwinkle color is really gorgeous and has lasted me a pretty long time. I loved this color so much I think that I will end up dying my hair twice with it.

Here are my key takeaways:

  • This hair color will make your hair feel amazing.
  • It is long-lasting and will fade to a color that is pretty.
  • I love the fact that the company is vegan and cruelty-free. However, it would be nice if they eliminate plastic from their packaging and use something more biodegradable.

Overall, I’m pretty in love with how this hair color looks and will probably apply it again when it’s time for a refresh. I think I have finally found the best hair color ever.  Have you ever tried a bright hair color?
